Pushbacks as State Crime

Research question

How do pushbacks operate as a form of state crime, and how do legal systems produce — or fail to produce — encounters with those practices?

Legal non-encounter

The project works with the idea of a legal non-encounter: situations in which persons and practices that ought to meet law are organised so that the meeting does not occur, or occurs only in a form that empties legal protection. Pushbacks are studied as a concrete site of that production.

Collaboration

Co-authored manuscript work with A. Chouliaras. Skouteris is first author on the current article manuscript. Further collaborators are welcome on defined strands — methods, case materials, comparative sites — where the work is still open.
